Empowering Young Women to Shape the Future: Celebrating International Women’s Day

Writer: sosthene donhou fotsososthene donhou fotso

Today, as we celebrate International Women's Day, Impact Axis proudly honors the incredible strength, resilience, and potential of young women across Cameroon and Africa. At the heart of our mission is the belief that investing in young women's soft skills transforms not only their individual lives but also their communities and our collective future.

In Sub-Saharan Africa, the working-age population is rapidly growing, expected to reach 600 million by 2030. Yet, despite this immense potential, 6 in 10 youth, particularly young women, still lack essential skills necessary for meaningful employment and leadership roles. This reality drives us at Impact Axis to prioritize inclusive and empowering programs like our Goodwill Fellowship.

Through the Goodwill Fellowship, we've empowered over 35 young Cameroonian women, with females consistently representing over 55% of each fellowship cohort. Participants gain essential competencies such as effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership. Our experiential learning approach prepares them not only for professional success but also fosters personal growth and confidence.

One of our fellows, Sally Njoh, exemplifies the transformative power of empowered young women. Sally’s mission transcends business success, actively focusing on improving health outcomes in underserved communities. Through her startup, HappyMe Health, she provides free health screenings and sensitization programs aimed at reducing undiagnosed diabetes, hypertension, and breast cancer, significantly impacting public health.

As we celebrate International Women's Day, let us recommit to creating environments where young women not only thrive but lead—shaping pathways toward equity, inclusion, and sustainable development.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at Impact Axis!
